Welcome to my photography portfolio. My name is Sebastian Källstrand and I’ve grown increasingly tired of words. Too often they are the same ones over and over, and they don’t seem to care if they make sense at all. In a day and age where understanding means dissecting and categorizing, photography is my way of reorienting myself towards the world, and reach for a new connection. Developing my visual sensibilities and aesthetic awareness is like learning another kind of language, and to rediscover things I lost along the way. Whether it’s the ability to wonder at the world, or just the joy of being out, breathing with the shifts of weather and light, my aim is to bring some of that home with me in the form of images.
It is a curious thing about photography that it can make the smallest plant or bush compete with the Himalayas for visual impact and beauty. I think it means that there is hope for all of us. In my work I aspire to be observant and open to finding beauty and interest in the ordinary and unassuming. With a long-term commitment and dedication to learning the craft of photography, I can only hope for the world to trust me with passing some of its secret beauty along.
I was born in Sweden in 1980. After taking film photography and darkroom classes in my later school years, photography has been a dear companion in my life. In 2021 I decided to deepen the relationship and that is the road I am on. My work is in black and white and I predominantly shoot digital. My inclination though, is to learn through using traditional film era gear and methods. Film is the medium where photography evolved, and where the right questions have been asked and answered many times over.
